The
Missions Team @ Bakerstown UMC
Make a Difference
"Serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received."
1 Peter 4:10
Who We Are
The Missions Team at Bakerstown United
Methodist Church is an active group, involved in all areas of the community, the
country, and the world. Global efforts include China Outreach Ministries, Campus
Coalition, Hipwell's Missionary, Christian Sports International, and the Heifer
Foundation. By supporting the Bethlehem Haven, located in downtown Pittsburgh,
we are aiding their efforts of helping homeless women by providing shelter and supporting
services and by collaborating with the community to end homelessness. We continually
support UMCOR (United Methodist Committee On Relief) a global humanitarian aid organization,
in providing relief to in more than 80 countries. Locally, we support Hosanna
Industries and "The Lighthouse," a faith-based volunteer-driven foundation, including
a Food Bank, serving over 6,000, children, adults, seniors, and families in Western
PA. We assist the North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO), a nonprofit organization
that addresses the spiritual, emotional, physical, and material needs of people
in crisis, hardship and poverty in Allegheny County. Mission dollars also
go towards sustaining three Christian-based camps: Wesley Woods, Jumonville, and
Camp Allegheny. The Mission Team has sent groups to Alajuela, Coata Rica,
and the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, to aid ministry efforts, home renovation,
community giving, and sharing the Gospel. |
Events
that matter
Throughout the year, the Missions
Team hosts different fun-filled events that support their efforts:
Junque Sale - A spring tradition, come to the
church and hunt for treasures! Get rid of yours and take some home.
Chile Cookoff & Talent Show - Enjoy dinner
and entertainment, get your fill of chili and support a good cause!
Cafe Bakerstown - stop down to the Fellowship
Hall following the 11:00AM worship service on special dates, and enjoy a bite to
eat with friends! Donations are accepted.
how
you can help
Recycle - Small steps matter. Something as simple as recycling
old cell phones and inkjet cartridges. Recycling helps God's world, and a
small percentage is reimbursed to the church. Drop off your donations, we'll
do the rest!
Support - A variety of fundraisers occur throughout
the year, and offer the opportunity for fun, involvement, oftentimes food, and doing
for others.
Give - The cost...1 penny...On the second Sunday
of each month a special "Pennies For Heaven" collection is designated to the Mission
Team. A few pennies may seem like small change in your pocket, but the Missions
Team makes every penny count - for someone in need.
Pack - UMCOR is in constant need of health kits
to use in disaster relief. Bakerstown was able to send over 200 health kits
to Gulf Coast victims as an immediate response. Find specific content lists
online: www.umcor.com, and for the cost of about $5, you can make a difference. |
The Missions Team @ Bakerstown UMC
Bishop Thomas
Bickerton is organizing a Habitat for Humanity “blitz-build” with the Mercer County,
Habitat for Humanity chapter. This project will involve teams coming from our local
churches throughout the week of June 8- 15 at Annual Conference to lend their expertise
and their willing hands in completing this project while the Annual Conference is
in session. They are in need of a project coordinator/manager, unskilled volunteers,
carpenters, electricians, plumbers, roofers, concrete and dry wall workers, painters,
masons, tile/carpet installers, finishers, meal prep and nursing/heath care assistance.
If you are interested in signing up for any of these jobs, please contact the church
office. |
