Lenton Pulpit Based Bible Study

Bakerstown UMC is offering a Lenton program "24 Hours That Changed the World," based on the writings of Adam Hamilton.

The aim of this study is to better understand the events that occurred during the last 24 hours of Jesus' life, see more clearly the theological significance of Christ's suffering and death, and reflect upon the meaning of these events for our own lives.  To do this,we will look at the geographical and historical settling of the events of that fateful day; reflect theologically on Jesus' death; and, ultimately, look to see ourselves in the story, considering how we are like Pilate or Peter, Judas or John.

The study consists of the following resources:

  • 24 Hours That Changed the World, a book by Adam Hamilton
  • 24 Hours That changed the World: 40 Days of Reflection, a book of reflection
  • 24 Hours That Changed the World: Video Journey, a DVD with seven sessions that were filmed in the Holy Land, plus a leader guide

As a part of this program, our church will be offering a seven-week study for adult small groups and Sunday School classes.  Here are the session topics for adult and youth:

  1. The Last Supper
  2. The Garden of Gethsemane
  3. Consemned by the Righteous
  4. Jesus, Barabbas, and Pilate
  5. The Torture and Humilation of the King
  6. The Crucifixion
  7. Chriat the Victor

Each Sunday of Lent, the pastor's sermon will highlight each weeks topic.  Each family will receive a copy of the Book of Reflections for daily use. The Study book is available for all who would like to participate in a study group or study at a deeper level on their own or online here - Online Study
